Tamper-Evident and Destructible Asset Tags: How They Work

By Printstudio TeamUpdated 20 September 20261 min read

Tamper-evident tags show when someone has tried to remove or move them. They protect the link between an asset and its record.

Types

  • Void when removed: leaves a visible "VOID" pattern on the surface and the label.
  • Destructible vinyl: ultra-thin and brittle, so it breaks into pieces when peeled.
  • Security pattern: printed patterns or holograms that are hard to copy.

When to use them

  • High-value electronics and lab equipment
  • Warranty and service seals
  • Equipment shared between departments
  • Donor-funded assets that must remain identifiable

Tips

Apply to a clean, dry surface, press firmly and leave the adhesive to set. Combine with a serial number and barcode so removal is easy to detect and record.
