Decide the page count first
Saddle-stitched booklets are stapled through the fold and need page counts in multiples of four: 8, 12, 16, 24 or 32. Perfect binding glues the pages into a squared spine and suits thicker magazines that need a printed title on the edge.
Cover choices
Using the same paper for the cover is simple and economical. A separate 250gsm cover feels sturdier and lets you add lamination for a professional finish.
Layout
Leave inner margins of at least 12 mm for saddle stitch and more for perfect binding, because pages curve into the spine. Number the pages and check that facing pages line up in the file.
Uses
Church and school programmes, company newsletters, sports magazines, tender documents and event guides all work at these sizes. A5 fits a bag; A4 gives room for images and tables.
